"Every Economy Needs A Hero!"

Speaker: Lisa Barber, Director of Business Development

In these tough economic times, even the strongest local economy needs a boost. Most of us have attended meetings or special events in Greenville, but many are not aware of the economic impact that these events have on our economy and our citizens. When out of town guests stay in Greenville, they visit our restaurants and shop at our stores. In general, every dollar they spend makes our local economy grow. By bringing or encouraging others to bring professional, fraternal, religous, cultural, or social organization events to Greenville, we are being a local economic hero by helping to keep Pitt County's economy solid and strong. Lisa Barber is the Regional Director of Business Development for the Greenville Convention Center. Whether we are planning a trade show, corporate meeting, or social gathering, Lisa will show us how we can not only guarantee a great time for our company, family, or organization, but also help us contribute to the growth of our economy.

How to Make Your Pitch! — Speaker: Leah Brown

Founder, President and CEO of A10 Clinical Solutions, Inc.

What's your value proposition? What do you say that people will catch? Pretend this baseball mitt is your boss or client. Leah demonstrated pitching for us — toss the ball so they can catch it! The wiffleball pitch: has holes in it and when you are talking they see through it. The basketball pitch: I pitch what I do while I throw others under the bus, too big! The entitlement pitch: I'm a woman-owned business and I'm entitled. The tennis ball pitch: the difference is that this one is fuzzy, can be caught but something about its fuzziness makes us uncomfortable. The baseball pitch fits its glove. We are really selling how we are helping our clients or our employers. Perfect your elevator pitch!

Leah Brown, Founder, President and CEO of A10 Clinical Solutions, Inc., is unwavering in her vision to provide exceptional, compassionate, highly talented clinical-research and clinical-care professionals to areas that traditionally experience healthcare disparities. With over 20 years in the healthcare/regulatory compliance consulting space, Leah holds a degree in Information Technology from Virginia Commonwealth University, holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky, and was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in 1992. She also possesses the distinguished designation of Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), and most recently, she successfully completed Executive Management Programs at Dartmouth College and Northwestern University.

If there is a upside to this troubling economic downturn it is that many of us are living simpler, more satisfying lives. The prolific and acclaimed author Wanda Urbanska, who spoke to attendees at the November Power Lunch was the first to identify a major trend in toward Simpler Living in the early 90s. She has since published a number of highly successful books including her most recent The Heart of Simpler Living.

She entertained and encouraged a packed crowd at the WPN November Power Lunch to jump on the Simpler Living trend. Lively discussion and questions revealed that many of our socially conscious members have done just that. We are drying laundry outdoors, slowing down, enjoying small talk and turning off electronics at dinner time -- just to name a few. Wanda Urbanska's books are available at www.SimplerLiving.com.

The November Roundtable was graciously sponsored by WPN member Louise Griffin, Realtor at Breeze Realty Network.

File Act and Toss Your Way to Peace and Productivity

Speaker: Barbara Hemphill

Barbara considers a productive environment as an intentional setting which supports who we want to be. She stated that the first step is getting rid of what doesn't matter and to consider "What is the worst possible thing that would happen if I didn't have this?" for everything we are going through. She considers clutter to be postponed decisions.

″Our guest speaker Barbara Hemphill of Barbara Hemphill's Productive Environment Institute was awesome! I took a lot of great notes on how to organize my office and home clutter to become a ′Productive Peaceful Person′″ — Keri Butler, Devine Marketing Group
